Man Wins Back Girlfriend After She Suffers Amnesia

In a story that perfectly imitates a Hollywood movie, a man was determined to win the heart of his girlfriend a second time after she suffered a bout of amnesia that erased all of her memories of him.

Jessica Sharman, 19, was riding on a London train when she suffered a series of seizures. She’s lived with epilepsy since she was 14, but this time her seizures resulted in a case of amnesia.

Sharman didn’t recognize any of her loved ones, including her parents, who she lives with, and her boyfriend of five months, Rich Bishop, 25.

“I was faced with strangers claiming to be family, telling me things about myself that meant nothing to me,” she explains. “I felt so alone with no idea of my personality, my strengths and weaknesses, or my likes and dislikes.”

After being shown a picture of herself with her mother, Sharman agreed to go home with her parents, but she wanted nothing to do with Bishop.

“They left me alone with him and I hated it. He was a stranger to me. Rich took me to what was supposedly our favorite park but I wouldn’t even walk next to him. When he held my hand I pulled away,” Sharman explains. “I didn’t know him but he was acting like we were in love.”

Two weeks after losing her memory, Sharman broke up with Bishop. Naturally, he was devastated by the news, but he wasn’t going to give up. “He looked so hurt and promised he would help me remember how great we were together,” Sharman says.

By taking her to all the same places they used to visit as a couple, Bishop successfully wooed Sharman a second time, even though her memory still hasn’t come back after six months.

“I don’t remember the first time I fell in love with Rich but I do remember the second,” Sharman says.

Unfortunately, her doctors tell Sharman that she may never regain her memories and that there’s a 50% chance of a recurrence of her amnesia. But she’s choosing not to dwell on the past. Instead, her focus is on the future, which she believes will be with Bishop no matter what happens.

“I feel so lucky that he knew me well enough to stand by me even when I thought of him as a stranger,” she says. “Rich was able to make me fall in love with him twice – so I know he could do it again.”
