Chris Rock made a lot of jokes and a lot of memorable comments while fulfilling his duties as host of the Academy Awards, but one that stands out is what the comedian said about actress Jada Pinkett Smith. Now, more than a week later, Smith is responding to what Rock said about her.

As a refresher, during his opening monologue, Rock said, “Jada said she’s not coming. I was like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited!”

Of course, Pinkett and many others chose to boycott the Oscars after no African Americans were nominated, including her husband, Will Smith, for his role in the movie Concussion. Rock also made light of Will, saying, “It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. You’re right. It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West.”

But through all of that, Jada chose to take the high road, simply saying that “it comes with the territory.” Appearing to be completely unfazed by Rock’s wise cracks, Jada continued, “We got to keep it moving, there’s a lot of stuff we got to handle, a lot of stuff in our world right now. We got to keep it moving.”

Jada has also posted a video on Facebook in which she encouraged other artists of color not to ask or beg for others to acknowledge them. She explained that doing so “diminishes power,” adding “we are a dignified people, and we are powerful, and let’s not forget it.”

It remains to be seen whether Rock will have a response for Pinkett, but with Jada taking the high road that appears to be unnecessary, as both sides have said their peace and Jada seems unfazed by the jokes directed at her and not the least bit deterred by any criticism at her Oscars boycott.
